If you want to be a part of our 2024 Homecoming Parade, time is winding down! The last day to return entry forms is Monday, September 23rd, no exceptions! Line up begins at 4:30 PM on Gum Street and the parade will begin at 5:30 PM. If you want to represent yourself or a group you are affiliated with, this is the perfect opportunity! In honor of homecoming, Allendale County Schools will be hosting its' 1st Annual Homecoming Cook-off! Participants can choose from one of three categories: grilled meats, side dishes, and or desserts. Only one dish from each category will be crowned the Grill Master, Sweet Treat Champ, and Best Kickin' Fixin'. Each tailgate spot comes with one free entry. If you do not have a tailgate spot or want to enter additional dishes, the cost is $75 per entry. Dishes must be completed by 6PM and judging will start at the beginning of the 3rd quarter. Winners will receive a cash prize and free entry to home games. The AFHS Cosmetology Class hosts a monthly salon clinic where students service members of the public at an affordable price. Styles range from braids, blow-outs, to ponytails and they also offer facial and nail services. The first date of the clinic will be September 14th, so make sure to book an appointment!
The JROTC Tiger Battalion will be holding a ceremony on 9/11 to honor the lives lost on that day. The program will be held in the AFHS gymnasium and will begin at 9:00 AM. We invite anyone from the public who wants to remember the victims and heroes of the tragedy.
We are honored that our partner, FullMind, did a case study on how their virtual teachers have benefitted our district. Thanks to FullMind, we are able to supply our scholars with some of the best instruction, even with the rural teacher shortage we're currently facing. We are making impressive strides! Dr. Miller discussed the successes of our hiring initiatives and how we have recently filled over 30 positions! It was announced that Mrs. Badger, Dr. Miller, Mrs. Davis, and Mrs. Grant worked together to secure a grant worth nearly $250,000 to address truancy issues. We also celebrated two of our middle school students, Tyrese Hammond and Lucy Krebs. They attended the Governor's School of Science and Mathematics Summer Camp thanks to a scholarship.
At our August Board/Community Meeting, early test scores were revealed. Dr. Cave addressed changes to our calendar, policies, and code of conduct. Mrs. Grant delivered the financial report and announced our budget has been approved by State Superintendent Ellen Weaver. Over the Summer, there were several conferences and retreats that our staff attended. They gave a brief update discussing their experiences and takeaways.
Dear Parents and Guardians, we are experiencing issues with our heating and cooling system at Allendale-Fairfax Middle and High School. In order to ensure our children are comfortable, tomorrow, August 27th 2024 will be a dress down day for only these students. Please make sure that students wear school appropriate clothing that adheres to and follows the dress code policy. Students that do not adhere to the dress code policy will be asked to make parental contact. In the meantime, box fans will be provided in every classroom. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working to rectify this as soon as possible.
Dress Code:
Tops: No cutoff/midriff shirts or tank tops
Bottoms: No tears, holes or rips are allowed. Skirts and shorts must be fingertip length.
Shoes: No crocs
Accessories: No inappropriate headwear
