Re: Intent to Destroy Inactive Records
Message:
On Friday, August 19, 2022, Allendale County Schools, Special Education Department, 3249 Allendale-Fairfax Hwy, Fairfax, SC 29827, will be destroying Special Education records of students whose special education services have ended and/or students who have left the School System more than five years ago.
Destruction of records is the best protection against improper and unauthorized disclosure. However, the records may be needed by you or your child for social security benefits or other purposes.
Please be advised that should you so desire, you have the option of retaining your educational records for your own personal files by calling (803) 584-4603, ext. 1130 to schedule an appointment for record pick up.
An individual 18 years of age or older, unless adjudicated, must request his/her own records; proper identification is required. Records will not be shipped.
After August 19, 2022, if no one has retrieved the records, the Department of Special Education will assume that they wish for the records to be destroyed and will proceed under the guidelines outlined above.
