ALLENDALE, October 4, 2019 –– Golden Harvest Food Bank partnered with Allendale County Schools to donate food to 150 families in Allendale County.
For 37 years, Golden Harvest Food Bank has provided communities with food as a means to not only feed bellies, but feed lives. Golden Harvest Food Bank gathered 48 staff members from its regional offices in Aiken, Augusta and the Upstate to Allendale to distribute food to families in Allendale County and for the company’s Annual Go Day. Allendale was chosen as the destination for the event because of the community’s food insecurity rate and the school district’s interest in the partnership.
Before the food distribution began, Allendale County Schools and Golden Harvest provided lunch for 100 families along with town and county officials at Allendale-Fairfax High School.
The company’s theme is “I love what I get to do.” Travis McNeal, Executive Director of Golden Harvest Food Bank said, “We see food as an encouragement in a person’s life... This could provide hope to some to see a group coming here trying to do something for the good.”
“Today was a great day for ACS and the community of Allendale. The food provided by Golden Harvest Food Bank was the blessing that many of our families needed and we are grateful” said Superintendent of Allendale County Schools, Dr. Margaret Gilmore.
“Today was a great success,” said McNeal. “Maybe this is the beginning of what we can do together in this community.”
