ALLENDALE, S.C. (WJBF) – The longtime State Championship qualifying track team at Allendale-Fairfax High School finally has their own track.
South Carolina state and local leaders including, District 91 Representative Lonnie Hosey and District 82 Representative Bill Clyburn attended a ribbon cutting celebration on Friday, March 1.
“This means so much for the kids. We do this work for the kids so they’ll have an opportunity to better themselves,” said Coach Eddie Dixon.
The Allendale-Fairfax High’s track team has won more than six State Championships and never had a track and field facility in the District. School leaders say that the team would travel outside of the District to practice.
“We’ve worked so hard, “track student Symone Jones said. “This is something great for our school and the community,” she added.
The $1.2 million dollar investment was thanks in part to state funding and grants.
